About JD Studios Africa

A nonprofit tech and creative innovation hub in Nairobi, Kenya, empowering young people through technology, digital skills and the creative arts.

Why we exist

Talent is everywhere in Kenya. Opportunity is not. We built JD Studios Africa to close that gap.

Thousands of young people in Nairobi are curious about technology and creative work, but face the same barriers: training that is too expensive, courses that teach theory without practice, and no one to open the first door. JD Studios Africa brings software development, digital media production, talent incubation and community innovation together in one place, so that young people can learn a skill, practise it on real work and connect to a global ecosystem of opportunity.

We are a nonprofit. Income from our development and studio services, together with the support of partners, is reinvested into training and youth programmes. That is how we keep many places free and others affordable.

What we do

Our work sits under six pillars:

Our vision

To empower Africa's youth by becoming a leading hub for tech innovation, digital skills development and creative expression, building a future where young creators and developers can thrive, innovate and transform their communities.

Our mission

To provide accessible training, mentorship and modern digital tools in software development, creative media and technology-driven innovation, nurturing talent and creating opportunities that inspire growth and positive social impact.

What we value

Youth at the centre

Young people are builders, not beneficiaries. They shape our programmes and deliver real work.

Learning by doing

Every course ends in projects. Every apprentice works on real briefs, reviewed by experienced mentors.

Access over profit

As a nonprofit, we remove financial barriers wherever we can and are transparent about any costs.

Creativity with rigour

We combine artistic expression with professional standards in code, design and production.

Mentorship that follows up

Mentors check in between sessions, so progress keeps moving after the workshop ends.

Local roots, global reach

We build for Kenyan realities while connecting youth to international networks and markets.

How we work with clients and communities

Whether we are designing a training programme or building a platform, we follow the same four steps.

  1. Identify the challenge

We listen carefully to understand the tech and creative challenges facing youth, organisations and startups.

  2. Research and insight

We study trends and local needs so that our solutions stay relevant and useful.

  3. Develop solutions

We build tailored digital tools, creative projects and training programmes that solve real problems.

  4. Collaborate and support

We work closely with partners and communities and keep supporting them after launch.
